The issue (I think) is whether it’s plausible for the defendant to have understood that money as a loan, as the plaintiff claims, or if she understood it as a gift. The long tradition makes it more plausible that she had good reason to think it a gift — which means there was no contract to repay it.
Getting to slam the plaintiff over his poor parenting was just a bonus — and maybe it made her less eager to find some way in which his point of view was reasonable.
No, but she berates him for not wanting to give the money as a gift. That was where she was “off base”.
I disagree. I don’t think her gripe with him is based on law alone. The defendant’s mother could go to collection on probably ten’s of thousands of dollars in unpaid child support, so this amount is really paltry by comparison. At no time does JJ say it’s a ‘legal’ responsibility.
JJ’s way off base here. It might be nice for the father to pay for the wedding, it might even be part of a long tradition, but it is not the legal responsibility of the father to pay for the wedding.
I see that the male plaintiff is missing a few fingers on one hand. I guess the tree removal didn’t go so well.
love the way they subtitle the song at the start!!! ha ha
*Just after watching the intro, saw this episode before*
Even if JJ is right and the guy was not a great father, why the hell should JJ and the D expect him to pay for her wedding? What kinda sense does that make?
